KCA Looking to the future

As our chosen Charity of the Year, Kids Can Achieve have a special place within Charterhouse and as we all start to move towards relaxation of the lockdown we wanted to share an update with you on how they are doing and the support they are continuing to give.

During the lockdown they have been doing everything they can to support young people and families to continue in their daily lives and to help avoid social isolation despite the disruption of coronavirus.

KCA has continued to provide support for their families and vulnerable children. Their family support team has been up and running throughout the crisis, albeit it remotely and has been offering a listening ear, as well help on how to negotiate Harrow services. They have been offering advice on how to access funding, food banks and volunteer services, as well as counselling and practical ideas for children and young people to do from home.

As you can see, they have gone above and beyond their normal remit to ensure all the families and children they support are cared for.

They have also been very fortunate in securing grants from City Bridge Trust and John Lyons Charity to ensure that they can carry on providing family support and therapy work for the next 3 years and expand the reach and range of support they can offer.

As the coronavirus lockdown has continued, KCA has been running their services on a flexible and individual basis to cater to specific needs as best as they can. They have worked with the special schools to offer a service to those most vulnerable young people who are not at school and have successfully run both an Easter and half term holiday scheme.

Throughout the COVID 19 pandemic KCA has been working with Harrow Council to provide a service that caters for these young people’s needs. As the lockdown eases, they are hoping to open the services for more young people and will start this by offering a Saturday outreach service, more details to follow.

They are hoping that by the summer they will be able to offer a holiday service catering for more children and young people. This will be done following and according to government guidelines and because KCA has such a large space they will be able to offer ‘bubbles’ of children/young people a safe service.

We wanted to highlight the work done by the staff at KCA, who are an amazing group of people. Without them, a lot of children and their families would have suffered even more throughout the crisis. They are an amazing and group of people who need every bit of support they can get themselves to keep providing this fantastic service to the community.
